The Challenge
The Berachain ecosystem needed a specialized trading venue for pegged assets that could offer superior capital efficiency and yield opportunities for liquidity providers.
Traditional DEXs require separate LP positions for each trading pair, fragmenting capital and limiting yield potential. Burve aimed to solve this through a novel "multi-pool" system that would allow LPs to opt into multiple pairs with a single position, dramatically enhancing yield potential while maintaining a simple user experience.
Creating this new paradigm in DeFi trading required developing entirely new design patterns with no established precedents. The product needed to balance simplicity for new users with comprehensive information for experienced LPs, all while incorporating strong brand elements that would help Burve stand out in a competitive market.
Key Challenges
• Designing intuitive UX for the novel multi-pool concept without established design patterns
• Balancing technical complexity with accessibility for different user types
• Harmonizing strong brand expression with clean, functional UI
• Coordinating stakeholders with competing priorities between UX optimization and brand identity
Process
Stakeholder Collab
• Led discovery workshops to align vision between technical, brand, and business stakeholders
• Iterated asynchronously with CEO and engineering team on technical implementations
• Collaborated closely with CMO on brand expression within the interface
• Managed feedback loops to balance competing priorities across teams
Project Management
• Utilized Linear for task management and progress tracking
• Implemented structured design review cycles with stakeholders
• Managed and delegated work to junior UI designer while maintaining design coherence
Challenges & Solutions
• CMO and brand team had specific vision for brand expression that required multiple UI iterations
• Resolved by creating a systematic approach to brand application that preserved UX clarity
• Established a design system that balanced brand personality with functional requirements
• Created regular touchpoints to ensure alignment before proceeding to detailed design work
The Solution
The Flagship DEX solution centered around a dual-approach interface that accommodated both novice and advanced users. For the multi-pool feature, we created two modes: a simplified experience focused primarily on potential yield (APR), and an advanced mode that visualized complex relationships between assets, correlation, risk, and yield potential.
To visualize the multi-dimensional relationships between assets in the multi-pools, I introduced a heat map visualization rather than traditional graphs. This innovative approach allowed users to quickly understand the complex interplay between different assets, yield opportunities, and price relationships at a glance.
Key Features
Multi-Pool Interface
• Simple mode highlighting APR potential for quick decision-making
• Advanced mode with detailed heat map visualizations showing asset correlation and risk profiles
• Interactive selection mechanism for opting into specific pairs within the multi-pool
Heat Map Visualization
• Color-coded representation of relationships between assets, yield, and prices
• Intuitive visual cues that explain complex financial relationships without requiring technical knowledge
Brand-Forward UI
• Distinctive visual language that maintained Burve's brand identity
• Balanced flair with functionality to ensure usability remained paramount

Impact
Successfully launched on Berachain testnet, creating:
• New paradigm for LP capital efficiency through multi-pools
• Distinctive brand presence in the Berachain ecosystem
• Foundation for mainnet launch with validated UX patterns
Lessons Learned
• Novel yield mechanisms require educational components to communicate risk
• Maintain tight feedback loops when dealing with brand expression in UI, as alignment often requires multiple iterations
• When constrained focus UX efforts on high-ROI flows that directly impact core value props
